The Griswald's

Natasha or Daniel?

Met N for tea and cake with the added bonus of seeing the Gwen John and Augustus John exhibition at Tate Britain.

Among the usual exchanges on homewrecking, disappointment and envy was an enlightening critique on the exhibition itself - N rather pointedly said that to ask whether one preferred Gwen or Augustus was a bit of a false question: 'much like asking whether one prefers Natasha or Daniel Beddingfield...'

Thanks, N!! (I'm sure you'll be most chuffed with being credited for that rather brilliant analogy! ;-))

raz-de-marée

Crazy time of year, huh, everyone? Terrible, incomprehensible news from SE Asia. Just Awful. What can be said?? I tried blogging about this earlier but I just couldn't find the words - everything sounded so wrong.

Dont foget yo dreams.

Falmer blue

Maybe one day I'll get the pony, too...

I phoned DP (now aka Sue) at around half eight last night to let him know I wasn't going to drop by. And he said, 'That's OK. I'm just watching a documentary on Keith Jarrett on Channel Four, actually...'

WHAT???*???**!!!!!*!!!

There are times when I really wish I were better informed, that I had a TV and a video recorder, that I read the Radio Times, that I would telepathically know at least a few minutes in advance when a documentary with one of my musical heroes would be on terrestrial TV, that I had a pony, and a Yonex T-shirt, and a laser. But who needs all that stuff when there's your Mum to dash off to tape the last half hour and someone who just listens well with a thoughtful head and tapes the whole thing just for you??

Siiiigggggggggghhhh!! Thank you, P, and thank you, Mum!

Adventures in car washing

I remember the thrill of the car wash as a child. I loved watching my Dad stretching out of the window to press that large green button on a wobbly stick and then closing his window hurriedly; the huge scary monster-green brushes whirring round making factory-type patterns on the windows, the noise, the all-encompassing darkness, the blow drying. Ah, the adventure! So when Z asked me to accompany her to the car wash I knew I was in for a treat.

Much to my dissatisfaction it was over much too soon and was nowhere near as exciting as I had hoped. (Don't ever quote me out of context on this one, dear reader! ;-P ) It was only mildly enjoyable watching Z cringe and squeal in fear for her car during those minutes of car brushing. Oh, I am a cruel person!

Z isn't happy.

How to start a winning blog

I don't think I really do any of these things. Does this mean I'm not a winner, Mum?!

No More Words from the Attic...

Don't be alarmed! I'm not quitting on you, readership of one thousand and fifty-three...

It's been just over a year since I started this blog and I thought it was time for a title change. It's "Words from the Attic" no more, because, let's face it, I don't write much, do I?! You gotta love the Power of The Photo. But I think I'll keep the attic even though I don't live in that lonely little loft anymore...

(Re. my subtitle: keep on guessing! ;-))

Brighton Fair Trade and Farmers Market

A certain Brighton Vox community choir is rumoured to be singing and hanging out with the yoghurt next Saturday...

PRESS RELEASE

The next Fair Trade Fair and Farmers Market is on Saturday December 11th at the Friend's Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton from 11 am - 4 pm.

Foodies will be glad to know that there continues to be new tastes to savour. There will be the usual great range of yummy veg, artisan bread, chutneys, honey, jams, organic cakes, olive oil, fruit and eggs.

You can buy some of the most beautiful handmade gear in town. For examples of genuine naive art, Artesania Sorata's cushion covers and wallhangings are hard to beat, selling here in Brighton and also in San Francisco.

Tibet Link have got some supplies direct from the refugee community in Dharmsala so fill your family's stockings with trinkets from the lovely smiley ones in the major mounds of the Himalayas. New in from Lucknow, northern India, are some alarmingly gorgeous hand embroidered silk scarves. Chikan craft, as it is known, is their speciality and shows exquisite skill.

Organiser, Barb Wilson of lovethatstuff feels shopping is all about people, "It's about how you want to shop really. Here you come to buy something that a person has made by hand. They may have sat, shaded from the sun, under a great tree or sat warmed by a fire somewhere in the mountains as they worked and this thing they've made will be passed from them to you. A special thing."
