Me, Monster and Tiggy

The difficulties of camera timers and cats: Me and Monster.

Me: Sandra, a novice cat carer, in my own home, with only Monster and Tiggy for company, alone for a whole weekend??! Do they *know* the consequences??!

Coastway Hospital Radio Grand Draw

Some of you may know I volunteer for Coastway Hospital Radio, an charitable organisation run entirely by unpaid volunteers. Coastway is desperately trying to raise funds for much needed studio equipment and is hosting a charity night at
The Ebony Rooms, Brighton Marina
on Sunday 19th Sept at 7pm

There will be food, drink and a little disco prancing, and
a Grand Draw

First prize is a stay in the Marriot 4 star hotel for two nights and two tickets to see London's West End show 'Chicago'
Other prizes include gifts from Seattle Hotel Brighton Marina, Thistle Brighton, Rendezvous Brighton Marina, Donatello Brighton, Cosmetics, Hair & Beauty treatment Lee Stafford, Fashion Accessories, 'Try Dive' parachute jump, Driving lessons, Car valeting, and more.

Tickets are just £1 each (or £5 for a book of 5), and buying a ticket gets you entry on the night. Local celebrities are being invited. I'm not sure if this means Julie Burchill and Chris Eubank or Avid Merrion and a gathering of naked mannequins with stick on faces, but, hey, why miss out on the possibility of seeing a B-list celebrity?!!

Even if you can't make it that evening you can still buy a ticket and have the chance of winning a great prize. Remember, you've got to be in it to win it!

Get in touch if you'd like a ticket, but of course, no pressure if you don't.

Warm regards,
Sandra

Let's go fly a kite...

This followed yesterday's pseudo trip to the gym by extravagant detour. V and I were supposed to be going to the gym in town and then the grocery shop to buy fruit and veg. We ended up eating veggie burgers and chips, buying scarves, sitting on an open top bus to Devil's Dyke, drinking beer and ending up at Brigton Marina at Asda. We came home with pizza, garlic bread and a kite.

I stayed up til 4am setting up the D.E.A.F. blog (http://deafprat.blogspot.com)
I woke up at a decent time this late morning and had Tiggy, A's soft, furry cat, wrapped round my legs and licking my toes while I made a mug of tea. Ahhhhh! Gorgeous.

The Mojo Fins and Actress Hands,
Hanbury Ballroom, Brighton, Tuesday 18th August 2004

The Mojo Fins performed well despite the obstacles - a microphone that didn't work for the first song, a smokey, enclosed venue with a horrible sound system and a loud, chatting oblivious audience. I want to hear them play somewhere where I can hear all the arrangements and the vocals. They will get better and better for sure - go see them if you can.

They have a new single out: go to www.themojofins.co.uk - looks like they haven't put the new tracks on the webby yet, but it's worth the two pounds - I've been listening to track two, 'Not the victim' all evening so far.

Actress Hands make you laugh when they play together - you can see they really enjoy being on stage and the blatant looks of confusion on their faces as they bungle things up are just hilarious. Amazing guy on keyboards, trumpet and backing vocals (again, despite the poor sound balance) - he looked just like the Richard Haskins (?) character off Prime Suspect. Wicked!! Their encore, a song about worms, saw them swapping their instruments and all singing harmonies - a good way to end a good evening.

neveah

I have just discovered a blog entry on ME...!!

http://www.whatalovelywar.co.uk/10s/archives/2004_07.html (July 7th entry)

One step towards getting my name and hand prints in web clay. Neveah's blog entry made me laugh. Yes, I did go to 9am lectures in my pyjamas. It was a miracle I even made it there. I'd just tumble out of bed, my head usually still full of tequila (hence my nickname at the then enjoyable Casablanca Jazz Club - live music and £1 a shot of tequila - monsta!), stick a jumper on, grab a pen and notebook and go. Sometimes it got really hot in there and I'd have to resist the temptation to take the jumper off. I did have some standards, you know!

neveah is one of the brightest people I know. She now teaches the courses we used to take. She knows Everything there is to know about the Great War (check out her Great War webby - gets gezillions of hits a day), comics, Zena, English Lit, more and more and more. Oh, and she knows everything about the ongoing pain and pleasure of writing a PhD thesis. A woman I admire for her constant thirst for knowledge and good humour. Oh, and she's the kung fu queen. So no messing with her, mate!
